Manu Rere Moana - Community led digital production | NDF23

Mahara Nicholas, Vioula Said, Aurere Thatcher, and Amos Mann present at NDF23. Mahara (Nga paparinga o te moana o Tauranga) is Kaihautu Waka Hourua, TKKM o Te Kura Kokiri. Aurere (Ngāi Te Rangi, Ngāti Ranginui, Ngāti Awa, Ngāti Porou, Te Aitanga a Hauiti, Ngāi Tahu), is a graphic designer, photographer, and a passionate advocate for kaupapa Māori. Amos is a Digital Producer and Vioula is an Exhibition Designer, both at Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa.

Abstract

Manu Rere Moana is a renewal of one of Te Papa’s long-standing exhibitions. Led by the Waka Hourua community, the renewal of the gallery marks the legacy of Hekenukumai Ngāiwi Busby who passed away in 2019, and celebrates the intergenerational mātauranga shared across Te Moananui-a-Kiwa | the Pacific Ocean. Presentation, reflection, and discussion between the Te Papa Digital Producer and the Waka Hourua community members who led concept, creative realization, and production for the exhibition's digital experiences.
